Crystal Palace Under-21s have secured their place in the knockout stages of the Jersey Mike’s Trophy after beating Newport County 2-1 in Southern Group E.

David Angibeaud scored the decisive goal as Palace claimed a narrow victory away from home against the League Two side. The result guarantees the Premier League club’s progression from the group.

Palace will advance alongside Plymouth Argyle, who are also assured of a place in the next round. The outcome means the Eagles’ remaining position in the group will be decided alongside the confirmed qualification of both sides.

The result formed part of a night in which Newcastle United’s Under-21s also progressed, while Cambridge United’s 6-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion Under-21s ended the Seagulls’ hopes of advancing.
